providing treatment closer to home

Our Mobile Cancer Support Unit has opened its services in over 50 locations and accommodated over 5,000 patients and visitors.

Working with Velindre NHS Trust, we have been delivering chemotherapy and other cancer treatments in Nantgarw and Cwmbran.

Our Unit is continually expanding its services and now offers counselling, entitlements advice and an on-board health check. 

A recently fitted satellite dish will allow new innovative services on the Unit including telemedicine.

to deliver unique support services to cancer patients and their families

Our Cancer Support Managers have helped over 500 new clients over the last twelve months through advocacy and family support work.

Our specialist advisers have helped over 600 patients and their families with financial worries and concerns during the last 12 months.

Our Cancer Support Team provides a multi-disciplinary service allowing patients and their families to access a wide range of services through the charity.

An astonishing 1,184 people have received help and support from our Cancer Support Team over the last year.

We have funded eight new PhD Studentship projects covering a wide range of subjects from the development of new drugs and treatments to the social and practical implications of a cancer diagnosis.

We have developed the Tenovus Innovation Grants to fund innovative, people-focused research projects that cover the whole cancer journey.

We carried out research that demonstrated participation in the Tenovus Sing For Life choir improved the quality of life of cancer patients, survivors, their families and carers.

We have run focus groups to better understand the specific needs and priorities of cancer patients and their families. 

We have run an online roundtable discussion with researchers and patients from across Europe on the complex and sensitive issue of cancer genetics.

improving equity of access to cancer treatment and support

We have developed a proactive telephone chemotherapy call-back service that helps us provide support to patients working with their consultants at the time they need it most.

We have increased the number of calls to our Freephone Cancer Support Line by 20% in the last 12 months.

We have established a Telephone Counselling Service as an extension of our range of emotional support activities.

to continue to provide innovative ways to help cancer prevention

We have developed an electronic touchscreen health check that helps people learn more about how to reduce their risk of cancer, whilst also helping to identify pre-existing warning signs of the disease.

We have carried out a number of health checks and awareness days in communities that suffer from disproportionately high incidences of cancer.

We carried out a high profile campaign to ban unsupervised sunbeds and use of sunbeds by under 18's that gained UK wide coverage and a change in legislation.

We published a study on the behaviour and beliefs regarding the effective use of sunscreen in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
