Our achievements
providing treatment closer to home
Our Mobile Cancer Support Unit has opened its services in over
50 locations and accommodated over 5,000 patients and visitors.
Working with Velindre NHS Trust, we have been
delivering chemotherapy and other cancer treatments in Nantgarw and
Cwmbran.
Our Unit is continually expanding its services and now offers
counselling, entitlements advice and an on-board health
check.
A recently fitted satellite dish will allow new innovative
services on the Unit including telemedicine.

to deliver unique support services to cancer patients and their
families
Our Cancer Support Managers have helped over 500 new clients
over the last twelve months through advocacy and family support
work.
Our specialist advisers have helped over 600 patients and their
families with financial worries and concerns during the last 12
months.
Our Cancer Support Team provides a multi-disciplinary service
allowing patients and their families to access a wide range of
services through the charity.
An astonishing 1,184 people have received help and support from
our Cancer Support Team over the last year.

conducting and funding research to improve cancer outcomes and
experiences
We have funded eight new PhD Studentship projects covering a
wide range of subjects from the development of new drugs and
treatments to the social and practical implications of a cancer
diagnosis.
We have developed the Tenovus Innovation Grants to fund
innovative, people-focused research projects that cover the whole
cancer journey.
We carried out research that demonstrated participation in the
Tenovus Sing For Life choir improved the quality of life of cancer
patients, survivors, their families and carers.
We have run focus groups to better understand the specific needs
and priorities of cancer patients and their families.
We have run an online roundtable discussion with researchers and
patients from across Europe on the complex and sensitive issue of
cancer genetics.

improving equity of access to cancer treatment and support
We have developed a proactive telephone chemotherapy call-back
service that helps us provide support to patients working with
their consultants at the time they need it most.
We have increased the number of calls to our Freephone Cancer
Support Line by 20% in the last 12 months.
We have established a Telephone Counselling Service as an
extension of our range of emotional support activities.

to continue to provide innovative ways to help cancer
prevention
We have developed an electronic touchscreen health check that
helps people learn more about how to reduce their risk of cancer,
whilst also helping to identify pre-existing warning signs of the
disease.
We have carried out a number of health checks and awareness days
in communities that suffer from disproportionately high incidences
of cancer.
We carried out a high profile campaign to ban unsupervised
sunbeds and use of sunbeds by under 18's that gained UK wide
coverage and a change in legislation.
We published a study on the behaviour and beliefs regarding the
effective use of sunscreen in partnership with the Chartered
Institute of Environmental Health.
