Meet our volunteers

every month we'll be introducing you to one of our volunteersVol support line

Today we're speaking to ...

Lee

Lee provides support to the Cancer Support Team in Cardiff. He volunteers two days a week helping people over the telephone with advice about benefits.

hi, please tell us a little bit about you?

I've recently moved back to Cardiff and was looking to gain some more experience in welfare rights. I live in Cardiff and also volunteer for other organisations. In my time I have been a stylist and a personal trainer, but am now looking at a new career.

why did you decide to volunteer?

I have been a supporter of volunteering since 1991 when I started my first voluntary role.

why Tenovus?

My mother had inoperable lung cancer so it is a cause that is dear to me.

what exactly do you do at Tenovus?

I am an Advice Assistant on the Helpline. My role involves answering calls on the support line, contacting people to discuss what benefits they may be entitled to and taking referrals.

what benefits have you found from volunteering?

It gets me away from dreary daytime TV and is a great way to learn new skills and gain experience!

what impact has volunteering had on you?

It has definitely made me a more well rounded individual. I love it.

what would you say to someone who was thinking about joining Tenovus as a volunteer?

Go for it - they are a great team and it will surprise you how much you get from it!

Do you have any questions you'd like to ask a current volunteer? Send them through to volunteer@tenouvs.org.uk and we'll ask on your behalf.
