Tenovus open outreach services in the heart of west Wales
Thursday 22nd April 2010
Tenovus, Wales leading cancer charity will be expanding cancer support services in west Wales from next week.
Tenovus Outreach Services for west Wales will be launched next Wednesday 28th April at Tenovus existing shop in Carmarthen.
The new Outreach Service will offer patients access to a wide range of support such as counselling and patient support groups and will employ a full time designated Welfare Rights Officer for west Wales who will give practical advice and support.
Helen Hughes, Director of Patient Care said;
“Tenovus is delighted to be offering these services to patients in west Wales. The outreach project forms part of our strategy to bring cancer care and support to the heart of the community where it is needed most.
At Tenovus we are always adapting to the ever changing needs of cancer patients and providing new and innovative ways to support them and their families at the most difficult of times.
Last December we brought out Mobile Cancer Support Unit to west Wales where it delivers cancer support alternate weeks at Llanelli and Carmarthen.
The new services in west Wales will offer additional support to patients in the area and give them access to much needed advice and support on money worries, benefits/entitlement, housing and family issues which will be available on a daily basis. We will also offer emotional and psychological support through our trained counselling team and support groups.”
Chief Executive of Tenovus, Claudia McVie added,
“The expansion of our services into Carmarthen highlights our continued commitment to providing the very best care and support for families affected by cancer across west Wales.
In Carmarthenshire alone, over a thousand people are diagnosed with cancer each year. By bringing the mobile unit to Carmarthen we will now be able to help many more of these people, and their families, much closer to their homes whilst also working with the local community to raise the awareness of cancer and develop healthy living projects to lower the incidence of cancer in the area.
Tenovus provides all its services free of charge and relies solely on the generous donations of the general public to fund our services and research. Our west Wales services will benefit from a Community Fundraiser who will also work from the Carmarthen shop and strive to fundraise to sustain and grow these services near people’s homes.
Tenovus Outreach Services will be launched between 10:30am to 11:30am at Tenovus, 6 Nott Square, Carmarthen, SA31 1PG
