Tenovus bring care to cancer patients in Bridgend with new drop-in surgeries
Monday 24th May 2010
Tenovus, Wales leading cancer charity will open a new drop in surgery for cancer patients in the Maesteg area from Monday 12th April. The new initiative forms part of Tenovus’ strategy to bring care to the heart of patient’s communities.
Tenovus Welfare Rights and Cancer Support Managers will be based at BAVO (Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations) on Commercial Street, Maesteg every Monday between 2pm and 4pm to meet with patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and offer them help, support and advice.
Sue Rayfield, Tenovus Cancer Support Manager said,
“Tenovus are delighted to be able to offer this new service to patients in Bridgend at a time when it is really needed, when a person has been diagnosed with cancer and doesn’t know where to turn for help and what support is available to them, emotionally and financially.”
The surgery at BAVO (Bridgend Association for Voluntary Organisations), Commercial Street, Maesteg follows on from the success of the most recent surgery opened by the Tenovus Support team last month at Sandville Self Help Centre and are available.
Sue added,
“The surgery at Sandville has been busy from the outset and has offered Tenovus an opportunity to work in partnership with the staff and volunteers at Sandville.”
Gwyneth Poacher, Nurse/Director at Sandville said,
The partnership that has developed at this early stage has already been of great value to patients, Sandville and Tenovus.
This informal yet confidential atmosphere makes it easier for people to obtain the help they need at times of crisis. Regular attendance of the Tenovus support Team means people know where and when to come for help.”
Sandville surgery is open every Wednesday between 11am and 2pm. BAVO surgery opens this coming Monday 12th April between 2 and 4pm. The surgeries support Tenovus Mobile Support Unit which provides a wide range of services to the Bridgend area every other Monday.
