Tenovus' Tonypandy shop smash Gift Aid target
Monday 24th May 2010
Tenovus’, Tonypandy shop has raised an astonishing £15,000 during the last year through Gift Aid; the single biggest amount for any shop in the charity - which has 65 shops nationwide!
Gift Aid was introduced in 1990 as a tax relief to encourage people to give money and donations to charity. It means that for every pound donated, 28p can be reclaimed by the charity.
Tim Finch, Head of Retail for Tenovus said,
“We are delighted Tonypandy has raised this money and it just goes to show what can be achieved through Gift Aid. The amount raised will go directly to support our front line services that help cancer patients when they need it most.”
Gift Aid is a simple and easy way for charities to claim money that would otherwise go straight to the tax man. The donor completes a Gift Aid declaration form requiring their contact details which is then processed by Tenovus volunteers and staff. This extra money is vital to fund Tenovus Freephone Cancer Support Line, Mobile Cancer Support Unit and counseling service helping thousands of patients and families through their cancer journey.
“There is a lot of extra money to be claimed through Gift Aid and we would encourage all our shops to promote this and encourage all donors to sign up. Tenovus’ shop in Tonypandy signed up an incredible 600 donors in order to raise this amount. To help, us continue to raise further funds through Gift Aid, we require more volunteers. If you would like to be involved and offer your support as a volunteer, please pop in – likewise if you have a donation make sure you fill in a Gift Aid form.”
