People of Lampeter 'Run for the Bus'

Wednesday 28th July 2010

People of Lampeter are taking part in a 5km ‘Run for the Bus’ on Sunday 8th August to raise money for Tenovus, Wales’ leading cancer charity.

Run for the Bus’, is one way Tenovus raises money to continue the provision of cancer services such as Tenovus’ Mobile Cancer Support Unit which brings cancer care to patients nearer to their homes.

All running events that generate funds for Tenovus, from 5km to marathons to triathlons,  contribute to the ‘Run for the Bus’ scheme helping Tenovus bring our Tenovus’ Mobile Cancer Support Unit, fondly referred to by patients as ‘the bus’, to patients nearer to their homes.

The Unit brings cancer care services to patients in their community; providing cancer treatment, practical information and advice on entitlements, individual and group counselling and legal information.

The 5km race, organised by Tenovus in Lampeter, will be a first for the town.

Deidre Martin, Shop Manager of Tenovus in Lampeter said:

“I decided to organise ‘Run for the Bus’ here as there has never been an event like it in Lampeter. Other towns and cities have run big events to raise money for cancer charities and I felt that it would be a great thing to do on behalf of Tenovus.

The event has generated masses of support from the general public and support groups such as the local Weightwatchers and WI who are all taking part.

Be it run, crawl, or walk, we urge as many people to join in and help raise money to support patients and their families through their cancer journey.”

Tenovus Mobile Cancer Support Unit, also known as “the bus” was launched at the Celtic Manor on February 2nd 2009.  It has already provided cancer care in 50 locations delivering cancer treatment and support across Wales, and has had 5000 people aboard to date!

If you would like to ‘Run for the Bus’ please pop in and see Deidre Martin at 44a High Street, Lampeter, SA48 7BB or call 01570 423116 for more information.

You can also support Tenovus by volunteering your time in our shop for a few hours a week and by donating unwanted goods to our shop.
