Doughnuts go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Wednesday 23rd September 2009

Greggs, the bakers will be supporting Welsh Cancer Charity Tenovus for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October by selling pink doughnuts.

Pink doughnuts will be sold in all the Greggs shops throughout Wales and the South West on the 9th October for the third year running, with 10p from each doughnut sold going towards Tenovus.

Greggs staff will also be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by dressing in pink and selling Tenovus’ pink ribbons to raise money for the charity and to help raise awareness of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the UK’s most common cancer with more than 44,000 people diagnosed each year, a number that shows no sign of decreasing. 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some stage in their life and nearly 300 men diagnosed a year. The funds raised from the partnership with Greggs will go towards Tenovus’ vital services to cancer patients and their families throughout Wales.

Alison Upton, Head of Corporate Fundraising, said:

“We are thrilled to be working with Greggs for the third year running for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are extremely grateful to their staff for wearing pink, selling ribbons and the pink doughnuts to help raise vital funds for the charity, and more importantly helping us to raise awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

“We hope that the partnership will benefit the women and men of Wales and the South West who are diagnosed with cancer every year.

Sue Adams, Retail Operations Manager for Greggs South West.

“Greggs is thrilled to be supporting such a worthwhile cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer affects so many people and by selling pink doughnuts we will enable Tenovus to continue to support more breast cancer patients through their treatment.

“We had a very successful year last year and we hope that we can continue to provide our ongoing support to the charity.”

There are many other ways that people can support Tenovus this October during Breast cancer Awareness Month. To find out how you can get involved please call 02920 768850 or email post@tenovus.com
