Golf Clubs Across Wales take the Tenovus Challenge

Monday 5th October 2009

Welsh Cancer charity Tenovus, the official charity partner of Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Ltd, is hosting a golfing challenge this October as a run up to The 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales.

The Tenovus Challenge, sponsored by Asbri Golf Ltd, now has more than 6,000 participants in Golf Clubs around Wales. The golfing challenge, which is a Guinness World Record attempt for the most golfers teeing off at the same time, will take place at 10am on the 10th of October.

Each club taking part will receive £50 Asbri voucher and two one day passes for The 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales, courtesy of the PGA - and made available by Ryder Cup Europe. The day hopes to raise over £50,000 of which will go towards improving services for cancer patients in Wales.

Title Sponsors of the Tenovus Challenge are Official 2010 Ryder Cup licensees, Asbri Golf, who are donating £5000 worth of vouchers to the clubs taking part in the event.

Eryl Williams, Managing Director of Asbri commented:

“Both myself and Paul Williams the Sales Director, are delighted to be part of the Tenovus Challenge. It is our pleasure to help raise money for Tenovus, the Official Charity of Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Ltd.

Sarah Jordan, Special Events Fundraiser for Tenovus, said:

“We are delighted with the response from Wales’ golf clubs for the Tenovus Challenge. It is great to see such a strong support network of golf clubs raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

“We are hoping that we can achieve the Guinness World Record attempt for the most amount of golf clubs teeing off at the same time. It would be great if we could hold the record.

“Funds raised from the event will be going towards delivering more vital services to cancer patients and their families across Wales”.

Ryder Cup Wales Chairman, John Jermine, said:

“It is thrilling to see so many Welsh clubs supporting this Tenovus Challenge and to know that people across Wales will benefit from the mobile unit - which is a world first and a life enhancing legacy for future generations.

“All golf clubs in Wales have been given the opportunity to adopt Tenovus as their chosen charity in the lead up to 2010, and that will give them the opportunity to access additional tickets for The 2010 Ryder Cup, and I would urge everybody to support this wonderful cause.”
