Joint counselling initiative in Swansea
28 February 2012
On 1 March we are launching a
joint initiative with Swansea Metropolitan University, opening a
Community Counselling Centre which will provide counselling for
anyone affected by cancer in the Swansea area.
There is a lack of
counselling provision in this area, with waiting lists often a year
long. Our service will enable clients to access counselling, closer
to home and when they need it most, when they and their families
may be struggling to cope. In addition, it will support students
who are completing professional training at the university, whilst
offering a significant free service to the community.
Helen French, Counselling Services Manager at Tenovus,
said, "Tenovus is delighted to be working in partnership with SMU
to provide Counselling for local people and their families affected
by cancer. The service can be accessed by contacting Tenovus
support line on 0808 808 1010."
Professor Ann Edworthy, Head of Psychology and
Counselling/Assistant Dean of the Faculty, said, "SMU welcomes the
innovative opportunity that the Community Counselling Centre offers
to our Post Graduate Counselling Students to undertake their
Counselling Placement at the University and provide a much needed
free Counselling Service to the local
community."
