Nickel refinery Vale joins forces with Tenovus
The Clydach Vale nickel refinery has joined forces with Tenovus,
Wales' leading cancer charity, to support families affected by
cancer.
The refinery, which is owned by Brazilian mining company Vale,
has generously donated £25,000 to fund the Tenovus Freephone Cancer
Support Line 0808 808 1010 for 2012.
The charity recently increased the Freephone Cancer Support Line
service to seven days a week and has a team of Cancer Support
Advisers that supports the whole of Wales.
Tenovus chief executive Claudia McVie said:
"We are absolutely delighted to form this exciting new
partnership with Vale.
"Their generosity means that Tenovus will continue to strengthen
its support where it matters most - right in the heart of
communities throughout Wales."
Dr Chris Thomson, Environment, Health and Safety Manager for
Clydach Vale, said:
"Vale places a high value on building relationships with the local
communities in which it operates. We see a strong alignment with
Tenovus and the way in which the charity supports local communities
throughout Wales.
"As a company, we are proud of this partnership, and look
forward to supporting the helpline and the vital service being
provided by Tenovus."
Tenovus is expecting a surge in calls to the Freephone Cancer
Support Line from cancer patients in the New Year, as many patients
put their worries aside so they can celebrate Christmas with their
families.
The charity's Cancer Support Advisers, who answer queries
regarding treatment, counselling and legal or financial issues, are
expecting to see calls to Tenovus' Freephone Cancer Support Line to
more than double after Christmas this year.
An estimated 120,000 people in Wales will be living with cancer
this Christmas.
And this month, the charity has launched its Christmas Appeal
'Celebrate Christmas With Us', asking people to donate online or by
text to help people with cancer celebrate more Christmases with
their families.
