“The Consequences of Cancer and its Treatment on patients and families in Wales”
A diagnosis of cancer can have a devastating effect on patients and their families, bringing with it a wide array of physical, emotional and practical problems that need to be addressed at an already difficult time.
With a cancer incidence that is amongst the highest in the world1, a disproportionately aging population2 that predicts a continued increase in the incidence of cancer and a health system that is under huge financial pressure, Wales needs to develop new and innovative ways to help support an ever growing number of people throughout their cancer journey.
To help do this, Tenovus has launched the Tenovus Innovation Grants, a new funding scheme to identify the most innovative approaches to caring for patients and their families at all stages of their disease, right from diagnosis through to survivorship or end of life care.
The Tenovus Innovation Grants are open to Academic Institutions, Health Professionals and Voluntary Organisations based in Wales. (If you fall outside of these categories, or if you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact us.)
We welcome applications for projects of all sizes from £1 to a maximum of £30,000, and for a maximum of 12 months.
We are looking for projects that aim to highlight or meet the needs of cancer patients and their families in Wales, have a demonstrably beneficial effect on people affected by cancer, or have the potential to do so in the future, and have realistic and sustainable aims and objectives. We would also welcome projects in cancer prevention, screening and early detection that help address the ever increasing rates of cancer we see in Wales. Please note that we are not accepting laboratory based projects in this call.
All applications must be returned by 12pm on 18th August 2010.
For an application form and more information please contact at innovation@tenovus.org.uk or telephone 02920 768 895.
