Our research aims

Tenovus has funded world class cancer research for over 40 years.

In that time, Tenovus funded scientists have contributed to discoveries that have helped treat and care for millions of cancer patients all around the world.

Today, the needs of cancer patients and their families are constantly evolving and therefore Tenovus is constantly evolving its research to meet those needs.

However, what hasn't changed in the last 40 years is the spirit of innovation and excellence which has always underpinned the research projects we fund.

Tenovus fund research projects that are unique and diverse, but each share a common goal; to improve the lives of people affected by cancer and prevent cancer from occurring in the first instance.

Our research projects can be broadly divided into two main areas-

in the laboratory

Tenovus has a long and distinguished history of funding world class laboratory research that has made a huge difference to the treatment of countless cancer patients.

Today Tenovus funded research is continuing to further our knowledge of how cancers form, creating new drugs for some of the hardest to treat cancers and identifying new genes that could show if a person is at a high risk of getting cancer.

in the community

With a cancer incidence that is amongst the highest in the world and a health system that is under huge financial pressure, it is vital that we develop new and innovative ways to help support an ever growing number of people throughout their cancer journey.

Tenovus is doing this by funding research that: -

  • works with communities to develop programmes that promote healthy living, early detection and screening
  • learns from the experiences and opinions of people who have been affected by cancer to develop new ways to care and support for others who have been affected by the disease
  • gives health professionals working in the field the opportunity to develop new ways to treat and support cancer patients and families before, during and after their treatment
